Director of Weapons Development at ShinRa Electric Company.
Boom, bitch.
♦ Character Info
Character Name: Scarlet West (nee Patty Lyle)
Age: 27
Affiliation: ShinRa
Occupation: Director of Weapons Development
Appearance: She's a bombshell blonde (natural, really) with blue eyes, bee-sting lips, an affinity for her namesake and, at 5' 4", heels. Almost always armed.
Background: Born Patty Lyle to upper-middleclass plate-dwelling parents, she had an average childhood until, in 1973, when Scarlet was 10, her mother and father were laid off from their jobs at a Midgar-based pharmaceutical company. A year later her mother walked out on them with another man, and a year after that her father died of pneumonia, leaving Scarlet (12) and her older brother Neil (15) to go live with their mother. Their mother, however, never showed— and after hearing horror stories about Child Services, the two agreed to run away and make it on their own. They wound up in the slums, of course, where they were separated. Fortunately for Scarlet, barely a week later she met Miles Port. Port was a large man who owned and operated a black market arms making/dealing business, and possessed an incongruous soft side. He took a shine to Scarlet when she tried to mug him for a bag of apples with a homemade slingshot loaded with pointy tire chips. He took her under his wing and put her to work running errands for him at the factory where he designed and built his weapons, and Scarlet swiftly took an interest in the business. When, within six months, she was almost as literate in weapons as most of his long-time workers, and more often than not she was helping with assembly, instead of getting people coffee, Port started flat-out tutoring her in weapon design. By 15 Scarlet was manufacturing her own designs and distributing them to a rapidly growing clientele. By 17 she had saved enough money to buy a very nice apartment on the plate. Six months after buying the apartment a man broke in and startled Scarlet. She put a bullet in his brain. The man was later identified as her brother.
A little over a year later the Turks raided Miles Port's weapons ring, killing Port and shutting down the factory. They identified Scarlet as the maker of the best weapons on the streets, and she was hired almost immediately.
Contrary to popular belief, (not that she makes any effort to correct the misconceptions) Scarlet worked her way swiftly up the ranks by sheer dint of hard work and skill— except for her final promotion, to Director of the division. At 25, Scarlet killed the former Director of Weapons Development, and rose to take his place.
Personality: While she's not necessarily a sadist, Scarlet absolutely loves it when her weapons work the way they should, which means she's usually happy to hear that things were blown up and people died. So if she pulls the trigger and somebody dies, her biggest concern is whether the gun worked precisely the way it was supposed to. She's something of a tech-nerd at heart, though she'll absolutely never admit it, especially not to herself. Her political skills are lacking, which is a dangerous weakness for a ShinRa Exec, but over the years she's developed an unrivaled grapevine that keeps her on her feet and in the game. She is, in fact, intimidated by most of her peers, though she covers it well with irreverence, flirting, and cattiness. For whatever reason, Scarlet has a special affinity for contrast, and thus likes to present herself with as many contradictions as possible: short but loud, blonde but smart, sexy clothes but serious business, and, her personal favorite, little girl with a big ass gun.
She has a short fuse and a foul mouth.
Strengths: Intelligent, unconcerned with propriety, good looks, a convincing liar, and a kick ass grapevine.
Weaknesses: A shade too self-conscious; even if it isn't immediately obvious, it often keeps her from defending herself (verbally. Physically there are always guns.) and from presenting her ideas and thoughts to others, unless they relate to weapons. This is one of the (many) reasons she never protests her reputation as the company's highest-ranking whore. An obnoxious laugh. Not very good at clever comebacks. Curses a good bit, and has a short temper.
Weapon(s)/Materia/Limits: Any kind of gun. Preferably of her own make. (Though she's partial to .500 Magnums, because they define badass. Elephant gun, anybody?) Generally she keeps a Glock 19 strapped to her thigh. Hence the dress with the slit. ;) Also: Villainous "Power Laugh"
Anything else?: She has a soft spot for big-brother figures, likes white chocolate, and when no one's around she listens to opera. Children make her nervous. Likes big dogs, because Port used to own a few. Closet feminist.
